The earliest known writing discovered in the Mayan script dates from about 250 BC, but the script is thought to have developed at an earlier date then that. The Mayans were known for their sophisticated culture which included many hieroglyphics.
Mayan hieroglyphics were carved into stone or bone, or even painted on pottery or written on books. The two main topics of their texts were astronomy and religious views.

In the Mayan religion, there are many different calendars that they follow and there are various symbols they must understand and follow. The Haab is the first and is made up of eighteen months and 20 days and is the Maya solar calendar. in this calendar is 5 days at the end of the year that are "nameless days".
The second is a Mayan sacred almanac of 260 days.
Here is a long count calendar calendar with symbols. This is a non repeating calendar that was used by Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures but mostly the Maya. This is why it is usually called the Maya long count calendar.
